Roberta and her husband Everett opened the Roberta Pollard Dance Studio in 1963 at 1119 Summer Street. The second location of the dance studio was 87 Glenbrook Road, the current location of the Malloy Insurance Agency. They then purchased a house on Newfield Ave, which has been their home and studio ever since. Over the years the studio has offered a variety of dance forms including Irish, hip hop and gymnastics but specializes in the performing arts including tap, ballet and jazz. Her students range in age from 3 through adults in their 60’s, some of whom have been with her for 40+ years. During the past 56 years, students have attended dance conventions, marched in parades, and performed for many organizations. The studio currently has three part time teachers, but at age 82, Roberta still teaches two classes a week. The studio’s success over the past 56 years is based on the philosophy: teach basics, keep current, and make dancing fun.
